Very catchy.

This song would score high if the percussion had not been so rudimentary. I think the use of the basic step-sequencer stuff coupled with FL keys was both rather obvious and not really fitting. Percussion should drive a piece, hardly ever be the focus of it. I suggest finding a few drum soundfonts and opening those in the piano roll rather than using the step sequencer. PM me and I'll send you a few good ones to play with.

The piano loop, though, is very nice. If it had been higher in the mix and complemented rather than run over by the percussion, it could really shine through--especially with the choir-play at the end.

7/10, and 4/5 because it deserves more than a 3.

Kuebic responds:

Thank you very much for your comment and knowledge of the FL Studio. The drums were made with the step sequencer as you noticed without trying. Back then before I knew of the existance of the Piano Roll, the step sequencer was the way to go. I have greatly increased in my FL skillz and enjoy your comments on how to make my works better. It's also nice to know you liked the choir thing at the end. Some of my friends thought it was so random... glad you liked it.

Well,

I really like it. The only thing I dislike is the sharp, cutting treble channel. The cymbal hits don't help that, as every real impact carries a slightly stinging high hit.

Melodically, and in the robot-y bass interludes carried on a cloud by piano melodies and catchy set rhythms make for a nearly perfect song that's easy to fall in love with, especially with your play between piano and guitar near the end.

Fived and Faved. Lovely, sir.

Thanks, Hyper-Freak92! ^_^ (Sorry for the late response, by the way.)

Well

I'm not sure how you made this, but it seems as if it's just a stereo pan with the same carbon-copied harmonies and parts as the original, and then an added pad into the background. Overall, could be better were it not looped monotonously.

I give you points though, because the filesize is 666.6 kb. That's pretty hilarious.

ZiggyZack99 responds:

Lol... you noticed :P

Decent, but mindless.

I remember doing this.

It has some drive and a tiny bit of sense to it, but considering your method...

Have you heard of Arnold Schönberg? Youtube him. This sounds similar, and I mean that in a slightly insulting way, as much as I respect the work put into atonal music.

FL takes time to learn; Years for some of us. My advice to you: Start off like I did. Learn keys, use C major to start, and write within it until you find something that isn't so out there.

When you're Steve Reich, you can go out there. For now, chill out and keep it diatonic, please.

Kuebic responds:

I didn't know of Arnold Schonberg until now. Thank you for comparing me to an amazing classical modern-music composer. I am a classical pianist myself and also enjoy classical music, but Arnold Schonberg is a style I've never heard of, but enjoy listening to.

Thank you for your advice, but I believe that I got a lot of FL studio down in the few months I used it (since I know the Keys, It was easier to me than some... ...thank God for not taking me an year to do a decent piece of work!)

Try listening to some of my other music. This random-note process was just for the bass riff. Everything else was added with some pattern. Perhaps it was my fault for not making it clear in the discription of the music. Also, the random note process was an experiment after I made most of the other songs on here. It turned out better than I thought.

Thank you very much for your review. I enjoy reviews, and would like more of your constructive criticisim.

Seems like a one-man-jam session

It's a bit slow to be impressive improvisation, and a bit messy and lacking drive. I'm sure this was just a "wake up and play something on my mind" affair, but compared with the hard work of people who spend days on one song and then submit it, it's got to be judged accordingly.

Get FL studio, or get some betamonkey drumloops, or something to that effect to record on top of and give yourself a drive. Or at least some string chords to dramatically throw a rubato solo on top of as such. Just throwing out notes in a scale doesn't constitute a five out of five.

As I said, I haven't listened to your other stuff, and it may well be that this was a brain dump. Whatever. Just going on what I hear.

Sounds like you enjoy the instrument though, so absolutely keep recording and playing. Just record this sort of thing for reference and start building a real song on it!

Well-done, sir.

I really love the mixing of ethnic sounds into Western styles, and you took it to heart quite well. I wish you had found a few more wind chime samples to give it a more natural sound, and had paid more attention to keeping the melody on beat there in the beginning, where it's really exposed. Try bringing the drum volume down during the part around 2:10 or so to let the metal voices come up. Other than those minor cleaning issues, this is a really pleasant song. It has a nice groove to it, especially with the electronic bass with natural instruments feel. 5/5 for a solid track that makes me want to listen, 9/10 because it could have been near-perfect with a few more minutes' attention.

LucreOnBeats responds:

Thanks for the review. I didn't know the exact BPM of the sample (sitar), so I tried to fix it to 97 BPM, but it never quite got on. I heard it immedeately, but thought I might be able to cover it up with enough music. As for wind chime samples, I wish I had more too, lol. Thanks again.

Eh, so-so

Danke!
Ich werde hören Sie Ihre Musik

Nice.

Solid sound, and well-built. I hope you turn this groove into a song, sir.

Oh no, not again!

Nice, man. I really like how you've come along, being my FL mentor and never taking any shot in life without viewing how you can learn from it. This is a solid take on a, before, feebly executed idea. I really like what you did with it, taking the same idea but making it much more paletteable through the driving rhythms and simply the arrangement flow. Nicely done, keep it up. If anything make those two piano spots more natural with a little reverb.

Epic, as always.

Eh, alright.

This was well done, but it could have just been the intro to something amazing. You really could have gotten something going with some drums and a solid bassline. Overall, though, very nice. I like it.
